To make easy Apple Dumplings roll apples in buttery crescent rolls, smother, and bake in a sauce made from butter, sugar, cinnamon and citrus-flavored soda.
Using store-bought crescent dough might be my new favorite way to make quick and easy desserts! It’s probably why they sell out quickly at my grocery store around this time of year. So many other smart people have the same idea! Even though I’m late to the party, it’s truly a game changer.
Last year, I discovered a recipe using crescent roll dough to make apple dumplings. Let’s just say, I made crescent roll apple dumplings 3 TIMES during the last holiday season. That’s seems like a lot when there are so many desserts I want to try. Even better, my family and friends loved these apple dumplings too! After I took the blog photos, my brother was all too happy to take these home with him.
Preparation is so simple, and once they bake, the tops are crusty, the bottoms are gooey, and inside, the apples are the perfect texture. To make them even better serve them with ice cream or whipped cream topping. It’s like eating your own personal apple pie.
Stuff and bake crescent rolls with pumpkin, spices, sugar, butter, and cream cheese for the easiest and most delicious Pumpkin Cream Cheese Dumplings!
When I first heard of making dumplings with prepared crescent dough, it sounded disgusting. Soggy and flavorless dumplings? No, thank you! Thankfully, that’s not how these turn out at all.
Instead, something magical happens in the oven. As the crescent rolls bake, the outsides caramelize to create a crispy exterior. In addition, the delicious filling becomes creamy and gooey. It’s the perfect contrast!
Specifically, these Pumpkin Cream Cheese Dumplings are great for breakfast or dessert! For easy entertaining, try making them in advance. Your friends and family will never guess how quick preparation is. It will be our little secret! You can just rake in all the compliments and watch the dumplings disappear.
What’s my favorite food? Chicken Harris (a.k.a. Cheesy Chicken Crescent Roll Bake) — a creamy cheesy chicken sauce over rice and topped with crescent rolls.
For the longest time, when someone would ask me what my favorite food was, I would respond, “Chicken Harris!” That was followed by a confused look and the follow-up question, “What’s Chicken Harris?”
It was until years later, I learned Chicken Harris is a made up name! When I asked my dad where the name came from, he gave me the real story:
My uncle’ neighbors, the Harris’, made this dish for my uncle and his family. When my uncle asked his neighbors what this was called, they replied, “Why, it’s Chicken Harris, of course!” Thus, began my confusing history of describing my favorite food.
So, for the sake of this blog post, I’ll be referring to this dish as “Cheesy Chicken Crescent Roll Bake” instead of “Chicken Harris”.
Although, if you are the Harris family that created this dish, please, send me a message! You created my brother’s and my favorite food! We’d love to meet it’s namesake!
